Vancouver is one of the largest cities in Canada, according to the 2016 census ,Vancouver has 631,486 inhabitants being the 8th most populated city in the country.

 

In 1891 the total population was less than 15,000 inhabitants only having 13,709 inhabitants because it wasn't very known. 

In the next 20 years, Vancouver grew rapidly because of the migration of Asian community and by 1921 it reached 117,217 inhabitants.

 

The next years Vancouver happened to be the target destination for thousands of transients  unemployed young men  who traveled across Canada looking for work, this caused the city to grow gradually in inhabitants

By 1981, the total population was about 414,281 inhabitants.Because the previous year they started 

adding bridges in order to conect the city across the river, establishing the British Columbia University  Institute of Technology in 1964 and Simon Fraser University in 1965.

Vancouver's economy is one of the most important  in Canada. Vancouver is Canada's official gateway to the Pacific Rim, a major port, and the main western terminus of transcontinental highway and rail routes.

According to the Conference Board of Canada, in 2017 Vancouver's GDP was CA$137 billion, with a GDP growth rate of 4.5%, meaning that Vancouver represents approximately 7.5% of Canada's overall economy.

 

Vancouver's major industries are construction, agriculture, film and television, fisheries and aquaculture, forestry, manufacturing, mining, tourism, etc… 

 

But the most important one is forestry because Vancouver is one of the world’s largest exporters of wood products, almost 60 percent of the province’s land base is productive forest land, providing rich and abundant wood fiber. The forest industry represents 3 percent of the province’s GDP, and contributes 150,000 jobs in direct and indirect employment.
