Vancouver has one of the lowest per capita greenhouse gas emissions of any major city in North America. Vancouver City Council has set an ambitious target to reach 100% renewable energy by 2050. Vancouver can reach 100 RE, an imminently achievable goal, mostly thanks to the city's large supply of hydroelectricity . Vancouver issued the 100 RE target in March 2015, making Vancouver the first major North American city to develop a 100 RE target.
Vancouver is already one of the world's most sustainable cities, but is striving to be the "greenest city in the world". Over 95% of Vancouver's electricity is supplied by renewable energy (over 90% hydroelectricity, and a big amount of other renewables).
Vancouver's Climate Action Team created the city's Greenest City Action Plan , and this plan was adopted by the city council way back in July 2011. As part of the GCAP, the City of Vancouver has issued a mandate to retrofit buildings citywide to increase energy efficiency. Vancouver has also invested a lot of money and time into expanding its sustainable mass transit network.
Vancouver in general is considered a safe city compared to other world cities, but compared to Canadian cities, Vancouver with a crime rate of 40 per one thousand residents, Vancouver has one of the highest crime rates in Canada compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 25. The biggest problem that Vancouver citizens feel is that there are more crimes each time , and the crime that citizens of Vancouver feel the most is drug dealing or people using drugs.


Right now Vancouver is having a waste management task that is called “Zero waste 2040” , the goal is to look forward to policies and actions to help stimulate, support, and allow Vancouver to achieve zero waste.And they want to achieve it preventing waste of all types, including wasted food at all points between farm and table , composting inedible food or converting it into fuel, repairing and maintaining products and materials to extend their lives,sharing, reusing, and refurbishing products and materials before recycling them.

New Westminster,is the oldest city in western Canada, New Westminster has a long and rich history. In 1859, the Royal Engineers arrived from England to establish the first capital of the new colony of British Columbia.The chosen site was selected both for its beauty and strategic location on the Fraser River.
Richmond, is an ethnically-diverse, growing and dynamic urban center with a unique mix of residential and commercial property, agricultural lands, industrial parks, waterways and natural areas. Richmond is situated where the Fraser River meets the Pacific Ocean.Much of the recent population growth has been made up of Asian immigrants. People of Chinese or South Asian ancestry represent more than 60 per cent of Richmond residents.

Street lighting provides improved roadway safety and increases livability. Street lighting is generally not provided in alleys.
The City maintains approximately 18,000 street lights. Most of the street lights are mounted at 20 to 35 feet, typically 30 feet. The majority of the street lights in Vancouver are a 'cobra head'
